Members of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA, Department of Maryland, D.C., & Israel, recently undertook a meaningful journey to Washington, D.C., to honor Jewish military history, stand against antisemitism, and reflect on the past. Their itinerary included visits to the National Museum of American Jewish Military History (NMAJMH), a solidarity luncheon at Char Bar, and a sobering tour of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
The day began at the National Museum of American Jewish Military History, where approximately forty veterans explored exhibits that highlight the contributions and sacrifices of Jewish American service members throughout history. The museum provided a space for reflection, reinforcing the proud legacy of Jewish military service in the United States.
Following the museum visit, seventeen veterans from the greater Baltimore area proceeded to Char Bar, a kosher restaurant that had recently been the target of an antisemitic attack. The trip from Baltimore was organized by Dan Berkovitz, Joel Poznansky, and Devora Exline as a show of solidarity with the Jewish community and a stand against hatred. Char Bar staff welcomed the veterans, expressing appreciation for their support and resilience. “This wasn’t just a meal; it was a statement,” said Joel Poznansky. “We will not be intimidated, and we will continue to stand together against antisemitism.”
The final stop of the day was the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, where the veterans engaged in deep reflection on the atrocities committed against the Jewish people. The visit served as a solemn reminder of the consequences of unchecked hatred and reinforced the importance of vigilance in combating antisemitism today.
Throughout the trip, the veterans of Post 167 demonstrated their ongoing commitment to honoring Jewish military service, supporting Jewish institutions, and educating future generations about the importance of remembrance and resilience.
Post 167, a chapter of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA—the oldest active veterans’ organization in the country—remains dedicated to preserving Jewish military history, advocating for veterans, and standing against bigotry in all its forms.
